Essential Makeup Products for Busy Days

Essential Makeup Products for Busy Days

We’ve all been there, the alarm goes off, and you don’t think, you just snooze. Then, you wake up in a panic ten minutes before you’re supposed to leave with no time to put your face on. It’s an age old story, and one I hope I don’t relive anytime soon.

Or maybe you’re the lazy type (like me). Now don’t get me wrong, I love playing around with makeup. Once I get started, it’s difficult to stop me from going overboard. But sometimes, you really just can’t be arsed. And, on those days, if you need to look put together, you’re going to opt for the quickest way possible.

When I’m in situations like these, I always find I reach for the same products. Because, they are easy to apply and they make you look half decent with little effort. So without further a-do, lets look at the products!

The Base

This is probably the most important part of any makeup routine for me. I can live without a bold brow, or flashy eyes for one day. But, I can’t live without my skin looking amazing.

When I’m in a rush, I always reach for the In Transit Camera Close-up Primer by This Works. I actually received this product in a Glossy Box and I have feautured it in one of my monthly favourites already (You can read the post here.) It’s safe to say I love this product. I mean, I haven’t exactly been subtle about it. Basically, I’m a lover of anything that has multiple functions, and boy does this product do a lot. It’s a mask, moisturiser and primer all it one, and it literally makes your skin look like it’s glowing. It’s advertised on their website as “pure confidence in a bottle” and I can see why. Also I am on board with any product that Victoria Beckham loves and I’ve heard this is one of her favourites.

Before blending.

After blending with my fingers.

As for coverage, I recently rediscovered the Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream on another lazy day. I’m actually on my second bottle of this product because it’s just so easy to use, also it’s very affordable. The great thing about this product is that it has SPF 30. If you’re pale like me, SPF is an essential in any coverage. Unlike a lot of products that have SPF in them, and also a lot of Korean BB creams, this isn’t extremely thick. You don’t need to use a lot of it, and it provides really good coverage. Sometimes, when I use Korean BB creams I feel like the product is sliding off my face all day, but that doesn’t happen with this.

The reason I reach for this product so much is that it’s really easy to blend with just your fingers. I love my beauty blender and all my foundation brushes, but when I don’t have the luxury of time, I don’t want to mess around with them. The pictures above are before and after’s, and in these I actually blended the product with just my fingers and it turned out great!

When I’m up against the clock, I only ever reach for the Benefit Gimme Brow Gel. I feel like this is such an unsung hero of the eyebrow world and I really don’t hear people talking about it enough. This tinted gel makes your brows look so much thicker that you can get away with not using a pencil too. Also it’s really long-lasting, so you can put it a whole day of work without having to touch up your brows!

If I’m in a rush, my eye makeup takes a bit of a back seat role. Like I said, I can go without having perfect eyes for one day.

However, there are a couple of products that will sneak their way in if I have the time. The first is the Sleek Eye and Cheek Palette in All Day Soiree. Again, this is a product that I recieved in a Glossy Box, and it’s also multifunctional. I think there is a bit of a theme emerging here. I talked about this palette in a lot of detail in my Glossy Box Post, but the reason I go for this palette above my many others when I’m in a rush is mainly because of the neutral sparkly shades. It isn’t the most pigmented palette out there, but its great to just put a sweep of sparkle or colour over your eye when you’re in a rush.

The second product is fast becoming one of my Holy Grail items. It’s the Benefit They’re Real Tinted Eyelash Primer. I only have a tester size of this product and it has lasted me forever, but I will definitely be repurchasing this when I run out. I took me a while to get into eyelash primer but it really does make a difference, and the great thing about this product is that because it’s tinted, you don’t need to put mascara over it. The wand on this primer is able to reach all your lashes and fans them out beautifully, giving a really natural look. I reach for this when I’m rushing because I know it’s a really fail safe product.

This is the lightest shade in the Wonder Stick Range.

So you can get a better idea of the colour!

So, this is kind of an add on step if I have enough time. Sometimes you just have to get that contour in, and one of my favourite contouring products is the NYX Wonder Stick. I use the Light/Medium shade and it is perfect for my pale skin because it doesn’t have an orange tinge to it. Contouring pale skin is a nightmare, as some of you may know, but this product makes it so easy. Basically you just draw a line under your cheekbones and around your nose and blend it in with your fingers. Then, as if by magic, you have wonderfully chiselled features.

Let me know some of your favourite quick makeup essentials in the comments! Also do you have any recommendations of really good multi-purpose products? I’d love to know! Any excuse to buy something new right?

The Benefit Brow products all have lovely formulas. But, I would not recommend any of the lighter pencils, they are super orangey 🙁
