I know, I know, I’m a bit late to the Glossier party. Glossier is THE brand that everyone has been raving about since they launched their UK shipping a few months ago. I can see why: the pricing isn’t extremely expensive, the branding is on point, and the quality of the products is great too.
Honestly, when I hear loads of people talking about a particular product or a brand, it puts me off a little a bit. Sometimes when a new brand or product range launches, everyone jumps on the bandwagon without actually trying the products first. So, before I made my own Glossier order, I wanted to wait a little while and see if the hype around the products stood the test of time. Unsurprisingly, months on, people still can’t get enough.
The Shopping Experience
Let’s be honest, one of the reasons that Glossier is hyped up so much as a brand is because they have the Instagram aesthetic pinned down. You first click on the website and you are bombarded with a combination of millennial pink, chic packaging, and naturally beautiful models. Because the website itself is so lovely, the shopping experience is a dream.
I was originally just interested in purchasing the infamous Boy Brow, as I had recently run out of my Benefit Gimme Brow, and wanted to see how well it matched up. However, once I saw that they offered different sets, I just couldn’t resist. The great thing about the sets is that you get a few of the products together and it works out cheaper than if you were to purchase them individually.
The Phase 2 set contains: Boy Brow, A Generation G Lip Tint, and the Stretch Concealer. Altogether, the set costs £35 and qualifies for free shipping, overall, you’re saving £12 by opting to purchase the products as a set. When you select the set you get to choose the different colours you would like for each product. One of the things that I particularly liked about the website was that it shows what all the different colours look like on different skin tones, which means that you can get a better idea of whether the products will suit you or not.
Shipping and Packaging
As well as qualifying for free standard shipping, you also get to choose one free sample, which I thought was a really nice touch.
I think it is also worth mentioning the incredible packaging that the products come in. Seriously, Glossier just seem to have every aspect of their branding nailed. The products come in a lovely little cardboard box, which you could definitely re-use for storing little bits and bobs. And, you also get an adorable little pink bag with every purchase. I’m sure you’ve already seen everyone and their mother using them! On top of that, each individual product comes packaged in a cardboard box. Honestly, with all the other packaging, it was a bit of overkill. It looked great, but by the time I had unpacked everything , I had about two tonnes of cardboard to recycle.
One of the things I was really surprised by was how small the products actually are. Every time I have seem photo’s of Glossier products on Instagram, or when I’ve seen people talking about them on YouTube, they have always looked way bigger than they actually are. So, if you’re looking to get a lot of product for your money, Glossier probably isn’t the way to go.
Up until buying Boy Brow, I have been pretty devoted to Benefits Gimme Brow, which is a very similar product. I went with the colour blonde, and the colour is really true to how it looks on the website; not too orange, but not overly ashy either. At first, I couldn’t see much of a difference between Boy Brow and Gimme Brow, which is great if you’re looking for a cheaper version of the Benefit cult favourite.
Because it’s a ‘grooming pomade’, this is great to use along with other brow products, or on its own. I love using Boy Brow when I’m really rushing to get out the house and I want my brows to look thicker and tamed. I naturally have quite light, patchy brows, and although this product is great for adding some colour and thickness, it doesn’t really do much to fill in the patches at the front of my brows.
But honestly, that is such a small price to pay for such a lovely, easy to use product. This is definitely one Glossier product that lives up to all the hype it gets, and one I would repurchase in a heartbeat!
The Stretch Concealer
This is a concealer that would definitely divide people. It’s one of those products that I like the idea of, but I’m undecided if I like it in practice. First things first, let’s get a couple of things straight:
- If you like a full coverage concealer – this will not be up your street.
- If you have oily skin and like your concealer to be mattifying – this will definitely not be up your street.
This is a very lightweight, hydrating concealer, which isn’t exactly in line with what a lot of people look for. I wouldn’t recommend using this under your eyes or on any bad breakups, because it won’t really hide anything. However, it is great for hiding any little bits of discolouration. Also, because it is hydrating and quite glossy, you don’t tend to get any creasing with this product.
I have started to is put a thin layer of the Stretch Concealer over my high coverage concealer. This is great because it stops my under-eyes from looking too dried out.
Overall, I’m still undecided as to whether I would re-purchase the Stretch Concealer. I’m really hoping that if I continue to use it over the next few months, then I might fall in love with it.
The Generation G Lip Tint – Crush
Now, I call this a lip tint because although the pigment is buildable into something more intense, with one swipe on your lips you will really only get a suggestion of colour. I got the colour Crush, and on me it comes off as a really nice pink, berry shade. It is perfect for when you want to give your lips a dash of colour. It’s a lip colour that is fabulous for throwing into your handbag when you’re in a rush.
Basically, they are perfect because you don’t have to constantly worry about whether they have run or smudged. I want every colour.
My Overall Thoughts
Honestly, you’re probably bored of hearing this, but I really like the Glossier products. They are not the most intensely pigmented or high-coverage, but they never claimed to be. All the products are very in-line with the Glossier ethos, they enhance your natural beauty.
I really excited to try some more of their products soon, especially the cloud paints! Which Glossier products are your favourite?
